An Upstate New York native, Dr. Robin W. Kimmerer’s career as a plant ecologist and scholar aims to include the role of indigenous knowledge in the pursuit of ecological restoration and sustainability. An enrolled member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation, Kimmerer has dedicated her life to programs which introduce the benefits of traditional ecological knowledge to the scientific community, in a way that respects and protects indigenous knowledge. A professor at the alma mater SUNY ESF, she strives to broaden access to environmental science education for Native students, and to create new models for integration of indigenous philosophy and scientific tools on behalf of land and culture. Kimmerer’s interest in restoration does not only include the restoration of ecological communities, but also the restoration of our relationship to land. (Source)
