Majora Carter

Coming from South Bronx, Majora Carter has spent most of her career motivated by environmental justice issues that pertain to urban communities. Carter has been a major advocate for change in the placement of urban green spaces and the creation of “green collar” jobs in lower income neighborhoods, citing lower air quality and unfair distribution of urban green spaces. Her work has lead to the rehabilitation of the Bronx River waterfront, the creation of the Bronx Environmental Stewardship Training program which served as the nation’s first urban green collar training and placement organization, as well as many other projects that place environmental goods into communities with less agency.
