Winona LaDuke

Winona LaDuke is an American environmentalist, writer, and advocate for the preservation of Native American land claims. With family heritage from the Ojibwe tribe located in the White Earth Reservation of Minnesota, LaDuke became an activist and community leader within the broader Native American community after establishing the Indigenous Women’s Network and publicizing both historical and contemporary struggles between the US government and Native American land ownership. More recently, in addition to running for office and being the first Native American woman to receive an electoral college vote for Vice President, she also founded Honor the Earth which has been very active in the Dakota Access Pipeline protests.
