Open Engagement- (OE)

Open Engagement (OE) was founded by Jen Delos Reyes in 2007. Reyes is currently living in Chicago, IL where she is the Associate Director of the School of Art and Art History at the University of Illonois at Chicago. OE was created as an artist led initiative with the intention of expanding the dialogue for socially engaged art and establishing a site for the artists work and collaboration. Since 2007, OE has held ten conferences, hosting 1,800 presenters and over 7,000 attendees over a variety of cities.

One of their projects, Queens Teens, took place at the Queens Museum in NYC. The project gave local youths an opportunity to foster creativity in a group of like minded peers, as well as learn about contemporary art and understand the inner workings of a cultural institution. Some students involved acted as reporters and wrote reflections based on different sessions they were involved in, recounting the event itself as well as the workshops and discussions that took place during and after- creating a well rounded reflective piece on the sessions.
